Mike Calway-Fagen
went to leave

July 10-August 4
Opening Reception with the Artist:
Friday, July 10 7-10 pm
The sculptures, installations, videos, and photographs in Mike Calway-Fagen’s solo show, went to leave, are apparitions of ideas of protest, urgency, and hope.
A young artist, making work in a general culture of complacency, Calway-Fagen looks to stories of his father’s work with The Black Panthers, free dental clinics, giant snapping turtles, and war protests as a foundation for his artistic process. These stories, among the many memorable cultural statements of sixties protest and activities have galvanized Calway Fagen’s pursuit for hope, some 40 years later.
The sense of urgency that the sixties brought has been marginalized and trivialized; Calway-Fagen’s work acts to resuscitate this sense of activism.
